Ayrshire Power welcomes response to consultation surgeries

5 July 2010

Ayrshire Power, the company which has submitted a planning application for a new multi-fuel power station at Hunterston, has welcomed the response from the local community to its recent round of consultation surgeries.

The three events, held in Largs and Millport last week, were organised to enable local residents to meet the Ayrshire Power team individually, to gain a more detailed understanding about the proposed power station and take advantage of the opportunity to have their questions answered.

Muir Miller, Ayrshire Power project director, commented:

“We would like to thank all those who attended the consultation surgeries.

“Events such as these are a very valuable part of the consultation process and many of those who took the time to come along had good contributions to make and raised some pertinent issues.

“We will continue to engage with the local community as the planning process progresses.”

Ayrshire Power’s planning application was submitted to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit on 2nd June. Last month the company announced that the consultation period on the application would be extended from its original deadline of 15th July until 20th August in order to give all interested parties as much time as possible to review the proposals.

If approved, the state-of-the-art facility will deliver electricity for up to three million Scottish homes and create a significant number of jobs in North Ayrshire; it will employ around 1,600 people at the peak of construction and around 160 on an ongoing basis once the site is up and running. The commercial-scale deployment of CCS technology also provides an opportunity for Scotland to develop new skills and employment in this emerging global market for decades to come.
